Paula S. Newman, Ph.D., LCMHCS, NCC
Hi, I am Dr. Paula Sanders Newman and I am the licensed clinician at Family Enrichment Associates. I am an Educational Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor, and Nationally Board Certified Counselor who provides individual, family, and group therapy for children, adolescents, and young adults. It is very important to me that I provide quality services. I take a client-centered approach toward helping those I work with develop the insight and skills necessary to meet behavioral and emotional challenges. I enjoy working with children and families to help them identify and achieve their goals.
I offer a combination of skill and insight-building activities, play therapy, parent education, behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and supportive counseling in my treatment approach. My counseling approach is informed by Adlerian, Family Systems, and Cognitive Behavioral theories.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from East Carolina University (Greenville, NC), a Master’s degree in Counseling from Webster University (St. Louis, MO), and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Psychology from Walden University (Minneapolis, MN). I have worked in behavioral health since 1992. I have been a licensed clinician since 2005.
My office hours are by appointment, only - Monday through Friday evenings, and Saturday mornings.
There are lots of therapists in the area, but I am your best choice because it is my life's purpose to help children, adolescents, young adults and their families feel healthy, whole, functional, validated, connected, and significant.
I am different from other therapists you may have met because I am not only a process therapist’/talk therapist, I am a ‘let’s roll our sleeves up and get to work’ therapist, a ‘let’s write a plan and establish some goals' therapist, and a 'let’s learn and practice evidence-based techniques to help you achieve your goals' therapist. I will teach you new skills, new insights, new ways of thinking, new ways of communicating with others, and new ways of managing your emotions. And, I will hold you accountable for practicing the new skills, adopting the new habits, and implementing new ways of functioning as individuals, families, and communities.
I look forward to meeting you, soon!
